LaunchCommand
What it does: LaunchCommand builds a four-phase launch calendar for a book: Mystery, Reveal, Flood, and Ecosystem. It creates ready-to-use TikTok, Instagram, and Substack content around your launch date using your Book DNA.
Best used when: you have a preorder, release, relaunch, rapid release, backlist push, or series launch and need the actual content plan instead of a vague reminder to “post more.”
Using LaunchCommand in the Suite
- Open the Darkling Suite from the classroom link.
- Select the correct active book or project on the Suite dashboard.
- Go to Launch, Email & Reader Growth and click LaunchCommand.
- Choose your AI engine and confirm your API key is entered.
- Confirm or create the correct pen name, series, and book in the workspace bar.
- If the active project already has Book DNA, LaunchCommand will use title, genre, premise, tropes, characters, hooks, comps, and worldbuilding.
- Set the launch date, choose a schedule, and click Generate Launch Plan.
The Suite version is best when your book data already exists in the Suite Brain and you want the launch calendar attached to the right pen name, series, and book.
Using LaunchCommand Standalone
- Open the standalone LaunchCommand link provided in the classroom.
- Select your AI engine and paste your API key if needed.
- Create or select your pen name, series, and book.
- Use the Book Source panel to paste or upload a manuscript, blurb, sample chapter, or story bible.
- Click Extract DNA so LaunchCommand has book-specific material to work from.
- Set your launch date and schedule preset.
- Click Generate Launch Plan.
The standalone version is best for a single launch, client launch planning, or a book that is not already loaded into the full Suite.
The Four Launch Phases
- Mystery: early pre-launch content with no title, cover, or author name. This phase sells the world, premise, hunger, and emotional hook before the book is named.
- Reveal: title, cover, characters, ARC callouts, and clearer book positioning.
- Flood: launch week content across platforms: launch posts, social proof, trope pushes, scene drops, and conversion content.
- Ecosystem: post-launch content that keeps the book alive: evergreen tropes, bonus content, reader prompts, alternate POV, deleted scenes, and series momentum.
Schedule Presets
- Full Launch: best when you have time to build anticipation and want the strongest runway.
- Standard: good for a normal release window with enough time for Mystery and Reveal content.
- Rapid Release: useful when the book is coming soon and you need a tighter plan.
- Blitz: best for a short, intense promotional push.
- Custom: use this when you want to control the number of weeks or posts per phase.
Book Source Options
- Full Manuscript: strongest option when the book is drafted. It gives the tool the richest launch angles.
- Blurb: fastest option when you already have marketing copy but not a clean manuscript upload.
- Sample / Chapter: useful for voice, heat level, vibe, and character signals when the book is still in progress.
- Story Bible: useful when the book has lore, worldbuilding, character notes, or an outline but not a finished draft.
After adding a source, click Extract DNA. Do not skip this unless the Suite Brain already has strong book data.
How to Use the Generated Plan
- Review the cards by phase. Check that Mystery content does not reveal the title or cover too early.
- Copy individual cards into your scheduler, notes app, caption bank, or content calendar.
- Regenerate individual cards when the angle is good but the execution is not sharp enough.
- Watch the platform and format. TikTok cards are often slideshow or text-on-screen. Instagram cards are often carousel, reel, or story-poll. Substack cards are longer essay, scene-drop, or behind-the-scenes pieces.
- Customize before posting. Add your actual preorder link, shop link, ARC link, hashtags, images, audio choice, and any personal note.
Common Fixes
- The content feels generic: extract stronger Book DNA from a manuscript, blurb, or story bible before generating.
- The Mystery phase gives away too much: regenerate those cards and keep the title, cover, names, and author brand out of the early tease.
- The launch plan is too big: choose a shorter schedule preset or copy only the strongest cards into your calendar.
- The voice does not sound like you: revise the cards before posting. The tool gives you launch scaffolding; your reader-facing personality still matters.
- You do not use every platform: keep the useful angles and adapt them for the platforms you actually post on.
